Apple iPhone 18 Pro's main camera to have variable aperture

Over the years, multiple Android OEMs have launched smartphones with variable aperture cameras, but we are yet to see that on an iPhone. A few months ago, The Information reported that at least one of the iPhone 17 models next year will sport a camera with variable aperture, and now, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claims the iPhone 18 Pro will also have this camera feature.

That shouldn't be a surprise because the iPhone 17 lineup is getting a camera with variable aperture, and one would expect the models coming later to have it, too.

Kuo claimed that the Apple iPhone 18 Pro's primary camera will have a variable aperture, and while he didn't get into the specifics, Kuo said his "latest industry survey indicates Sunny Optical will be the primary shutter supplier (with Luxshare as secondary) and the second variable aperture lens supplier (after Largan Precision)."

Current iPhones all sport cameras with fixed apertures, and having variable aperture would enable users to control the amount of light entering the lens and adjust the depth-of-field.
